You’re doing everything wrong in your business.

How do I know? Cause that was me.

I had a to-do list a mile long and was trying to work every waking hour that I wasn’t with my kids. And some hours I WAS with my kids!

I was feeling discouraged and burnt out.

I seriously thought about giving up my blog and finding a part time job. Who was I to tell you how to balance running a small business with family life when I could even do it myself?

And then I went to Activate! and listened to a talk from Rosemarie Groner about Return on Investment (ROI).

It felt like she was slapping me on the back of the head. Seriously, it hurt.

I realized I was focusing on the wrong stuff. Stuff that didn’t mean a thing to my growth or success.

I sat down that night and made a “Do Not Do” list. And I gave myself permission to stop doing the tasks that weren’t really helping my business.

You know what? It was HARD.

I felt guilty when I stopped doing share threads on Facebook.

I had a super hard time saying no to buying new classes.

And I wasn’t sure that I was making the right choices.

But you know what happened? Once I started focusing on the tasks that actually made money in my business, I started to make more money. (Funny how that works)

And once I created a small business work schedule that worked for my life, I started completing more tasks. Or at least I felt more productive because I was crossing off more of my list.

So, how can you do this too?

Make a Plan!

And stick to it! I mean, you can change things around, but don’t give up on the plan. Keep working it! Make sure you download The Productivity Solution to help you create your plan.

 

Have you ever thought about the tasks you are doing? Or do you just do them because you think you should? Or maybe you do them because “everyone” else does them?

If you are not evaluating tasks based on what you get out of them, you are doing it wrong too. There are so many things that you can get rid of in your life, if you just let go of your guilt.

Another place I was messing up my life was making long term goals.

Why is that wrong? Because they never got done!

Goals need to be focused on and attacked and if you think you have a whole year to get it done you never work on it.

Figure out your small business work schedule

Are you a time waster? Checking Facebook one more time before you work on that project? Or scrolling through your phone to avoid working all together?

You need a plan for your time. You need to figure out how to set aside time for your work and time for your life. Then stick with it!

One of the best things you can do to set yourself up for success is to prioritize you to-do list so you always know what you should be working on. Don’t let yourself sit down to work with no idea what you are supposed to be working on.

Take the time to plan out your small business work schedule each week. Setting aside an hour on Sunday to plan what needs to get done when that week will save you tons of time.
