The best email marketing tools for blog growth
If you don’t already use email for your blog (or business for that matter!) I’m gonna guess you’ve been living under a rock for the last three years. Building an email list should be the number one priority for new bloggers.
Honestly, almost all of the affiliate marketing income I make is from my email list. That’s right, not my blog, my list.
An email address is a personal invite to contact someone. If you build your list right, you’ll have a whole horde of people that are dying to hear from you.
And yes, there is a right and wrong way to build your list.
You want people on your list who are excited to be there. Not people who only signed up because you were giving away something totally unrelated to your blogging niche.
So, I’m going to share with you the only two email marketing tools you’ll ever need to build an engaged list.
Why I love ConvertKit
My very favorite email marketing service is ConvertKit. There are a million different services you can use, but I’ll tell you why I love ConvertKit best.
First, it’s easy to use. The dashboard makes sense and it’s easy to find what you need.
You can see your subscribers and filter them easily to see where they are coming from.
You have unlimited forms on ConvertKit, so you can have as many different freebies as you want! And because you only pay once per subscriber, instead of by list like MailChimp, you can have the same subscriber sign up for different freebies without a financial penalty.
The ConvertKit form is pretty simple and doesn’t have a ton of customization but you can change the colors and add photos. The landing pages are also pretty simple. It’s the one place I really hope they are planning to improve.
But they do have a bunch of different forms you can create at this point. In line forms, pop-ups, slide-ins and landing pages are all available.
It also integrates with my favorite course creation platform, Teachable. This makes it super easy to keep in touch my with students and send them emails about the course that they’ve signed up for.
ConvertKit automation makes life easy
Probably the best part of ConvertKit is the tagging, segmenting and automation abilities.
When a user joins a form, you can have that automatically add a tag to their account. This tag can then trigger an email sequence or add them to a segment for later emails.
This all means that you can create an email sequence once and then send them to the people who will be most interested in the information over and over again.
Why I love List Love
The second email marketing tool you need to grow a strong, engaged list is List Love Master Course.
List Love is a course by my friend Jennifer Maker. She is a craft blogger who has built a huge email list in the last two years.
Jennifer has some approaches to email list building that I haven’t seen anywhere else…and they work!
I joined the beta launch of List Love last year after working on my email list for over a year. I had just under 1000 subscribers. Now, I have over 4000 subscribers!
One of the strategies that Jennifer teaches is to create a Resource Library. This has been a game changer for my blog because I create a ton of resources and was worried that everyone already on my list was missing out!
Now I don’t worry at all because all my subscribers can access the Resource Library whenever they want and download new resources to use in their small business.
Not only does Jennifer cover how to create a resource library, but how to create the resources too! She talks about how to brainstorm ideas and write blog posts that will get your readers interested in your freebie.
She then goes on to show you how to promote your freebie in Facebook groups, on Pinterest and YouTube.
Lastly, she covers how to email your list from the beginning. Your welcome sequence is an important part of building a strong relationship with your subscribers and she provides tons of direction on what to include.
You can see why I love this course. It has changed my whole approach to email marketing.
How ConvertKit and List Love work together
ConvertKit and List Love is the perfect combination of email marketing tools for strong list growth.
They build off of each other to help you to create a list of true fans who can’t wait to hear from you. You’ll be able to keep your list active and engaged by creating strong opt-ins that depend on ConvertKit’s automation to deliver with no work on your part.
If you have been thinking about starting or growing your list, I encourage you to check out both of these email marketing tools.
